The Problem:
My “Realtek PCIe GBE Family Network Controller” Keeps Losing My Internet Connection
I recently build a new PC using an “ASUS M5A78L-M LX” motherboard. I noticed that about two months later, my Internet connection started mysteriously dropping. Here is how I Fixed the problem.
The Solution:
This problem seems to be associated with the on-board Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. I have found that by un-checking the “Allow the computer to turn off this device” setting, resolves this problem.
Note: I am running Windows 7 Professional 32bit, but I have seen comments on the Internet that it affects other versions of Windows 7 and some distributions of Linux as well.
