With talk of a soon to be unveiled iPhone 6, I thought it would be cool to look back at how far the Apple iPhone has come and it’s always exciting to look at what might be ahead when rumors of the iPhone 6’s features become fact.
Smartphones have changed our lives and this relatively new technological advance continues to evolve. In 2007, Apple guru Steve Jobs released the first iPhone setting the tech-loving world a buzz with its on board 2MP camera, radio, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features.
Remembering the iPhone 3G
Released in July 2008, the iPhone 3G came with cool specs including a GPS, 3G radios, 2MP camera, and the App Store where customers could personalize and customize the apps on their phones. The 3G, second generation iPhone was released to a much larger customer base than the original phone, which was only distributed to North America and countries in the European Union. According to Apple, it sold 1 million iPhone 3Gs in the first three days of its launch.
A Tip of the Hat to the iPhone 3GS
Just a year later, the new incarnation of the iPhone emerged with an iOS offering customers a 3MP camera along with video recording capabilities, increased storage of 32GB, voice control and connectivity to the Internet. This updated phone came with a simple yet important function; the ability to cut, paste, and copy text, something that iOS 3.0 provided. It is also important to note that this phone offered the first landscape keyboard as well.
Apple iPhone 4 Gets In Your Face
Released on June 24, 2010, the Apple iPhone 4 provided users with a handy front-facing camera, making it the perfect tool for Face Time video calls. It also came with a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 3.5 inch Retina display and an Apple A4 processor. Apple reported a boost in new release sales on the iPhone 4 device. They reportedly sold 1.7 million in the first three days.
Apple Gets a Sexy Voice with the iPhone 4S
Siri made “her” debut on October 14, 2011. She was the voice-controlled assistant, which helped users find the local coffee shop or search for a phone number. Besides Siri, the 4S came with Apple’s dual-core A5 processor, an 8MP camera with 1080p video capture, and world phone and radios. With the iPhone 4S, Apple also presented iOS 5 which provided the first iCloud service. An excited public purchased 4 million of the iPhone 4S devices in the first three days after the launch.
Apple iPhone 5 Goes Easy on the Eyes
The US release for the iPhone 5 was Sept. 21, 2012. Some important specs were the 4-inch “Retina” display, an Apple A6 processor, an 8MP camera, and a new Apple Lightening port. Users had mixed emotions about the larger display. Some raved about the larger screen size, and others weren’t impressed with the phone’s likeness to a small tablet. Still, the iPhone 5 quickly won over hearts as demonstrated by the fact that Apple sold 5 million of the devices in the first couple of days after the launch.
Swipers, Show Love for the Apple iPhone 5S
On it’s expected release on September 20, 2013, the iPhone 5S held an Apple A7 chip with a whopping 64-bit processor. It also came with a TouchID fingerprint sensor and 4G LTE bands.
Apple iPhone 5C Gets Colorful
Released on the same date as the 5S, the 5C focused on color. These swanky new devices came with colorful cases, an Apple A6 processor, and 4G LTE bands.
Ready for the iPhone 6?
Apple is set to release the iPhone 6 soon, and some of the details will be released on September 9, 2014 at an Apple event.
While there are reports that the screen suppliers have redesigned the panel to fix a design flaw, the company is hinting that the newest incarnation of the smartphone will be unveiled on time. So what can we expect? Rumor has it the newest iPhones are bigger and the new release will offer two sizes: a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch screen, using a patented design that combines Sapphire and glass to create a virtually unbreakable screen.
The rest of Apple’s iPhone secrets remain just that—a secret but if you follow the timeline smartphone users can be sure that the company won’t fail to impress.
