In 2008, Computer Support Specialists were commanding salaries between $26,580 and $70,750, with the median (middle 50%) earning approximately $45,000. I also want to point out that as your knowledge and experience increases, you can begin to venture out into other IT careers, allowing you to make even more money.

The education needed in order to get a job in the Computer Support Specialist field will vary by company and complexity of the position. Some jobs may only require basic computing skills and a high school diploma. However, the more higher paying jobs may require 3-5 years of experience, a college degree and PC certifications (e.g. A+, CCNA, Network+, MCTS, etc).
Keep in mind, like anything else the better your skill set, the better your chances of landing the job. Also, even after you have gotten into the IT field, you will need to continue to improve or enhance your skills by doing things like obtaining certifications. Certifications demonstrate to people that you have gained a level of proficiency in an area of technology.
