Become PC Certified

computer-trainingIntroduction

A recent study showed that there are several households now with multiple computers.  I have firsthand experience with this because there are a total of 5 computers in my house. I have had up to 4 running simultaneously.

In fact, there have been occassions where multiple tech gadgets (PC’s, laptops, tablet and smart phones) have been running in my house on the network.

As the number of computers and other gadgets increases, there continues to be a greater need for trained certified professionals who can help troubleshoot all of these devices when problems happen.

Experience is Not Enough

If you are considering a career as a computer support specialist, you will quickly learn that employers and businesses will require you to have:

  • Formal Education
  • Work Experience
  • Be PC certified by a reputable organization

These days, experience alone is not enough, the industry, also wants certified professionals before offering you a job or their business.

My Experience with Technology Certifications

I have an absolute passion for technology. I love building computers, I can probably do it blind folded.  However, nobody in Corporate America was beating down my door looking for business decreed computer support specialist.  I desperartely wanted to get into the technology field so decided that I would use PC certifications to compliment the experience I had already gotten as a freelancer.

I started out with CompTIA’s A+ exam (two exams), I thought this was the best one to start with since it primarily dealt with PC hardware and operating systems. After passing the A+ exam I began studying for the Network+ exam, which is also a CompTIA exam.  The Network Plus exam is a vendor neutral exam that tests a person’s basic networking knowledge. You must pass just one test to get your Network+ certification.

I also obtained the Microsoft Certified Professional (MPC) designation in both Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional. The MCP exam has been discontinued since I took it.  Microsoft’s new specialist exams are the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) exams. There a few MCTS Tracks you can explore, I reccomend you visit the Microsoft website for more information.
